Natural world at the City's edge

It's been a murky old week this week, but today the world was transformed, and trusty camera in hand (well, around neck anyway) I got muddy and happy trudging through the wet woodland.

The view from the top of the hill; in the distance you can see both of the Severn Bridges, spanning the river from England to Wales! The sky looks huge from up here. I always feel close to my family,  living just over the other side in the beautiful Forest of Dean.

The  contorted shape of these branches and the dark/light interplay just caught my eye.

This beautiful silhouette reminded me of one of those incredible papercuts.

That particular 'autumn glow' from the shafts of sunlight made the woods look stunning.

A leaf 'Shadow Theatre!' I wanted to make a leaf puppet to dance behind it!

Those seed heads again, who would believe something so simple could look so amazing!
Then, walking home, I saw this.  Wow - colour, shape, texture, light and shadow, all contained in something we pass by every day without even noticing.

Isn't nature fantastic.

  1. It was good to see pictures of the bridges having been born and bought up in Newport.
