Brambly Hedge - The Secret Staircase

I found this in a local charity shop last week, in the original printing from the 80's. The book looks as if it's never even been opened, which is sad -  but not for me!  I've always loved  Jill Barklem's wonderful illustrations.

Her attention to detail is amazing.  I remember making  tiny dressed mice in the 1980's inspired by these books - I wish I'd kept one of them now!

I'll have to watch out for the other books in the series, it would be lovely to have the set!

  1. What a treasure! I love scouting for vintage books at thrift shops and flea markets, as you know. This one is a great find, indeed. Such wonderful illustrations…reminds me of Jeri's work at Hopalong Hollow.

  10. Wow. I love those illustrations. I seem to remember dressing up mice cut-out dolls way back when too. It's amazing what you can find at thrift stores and flea markets. I'll bet this inspires you with your own doll making and stitching!
