Meet Claudia!

I first got interested in cloth dolls this summer, after seeing a Jan Horrox advertisement in "Stitch" magazine. I then discovered the wonderful work of Patti Medaris Culea http://www.pmcdesigns.com/ and became completely hooked. I'd always been totally uninterested in dolls of any kind, but these figures and the wonderful use of different medias and techniques really inspired me. So, here is my first attempt, my interpretation of Patti's beginner doll pattern "Claudia" from her"Creative Cloth Doll faces" book.

She is mostly made up of items I already had. I hand dyed the silk and lace clothing, which was great fun. Unfortunately I didn't have the correct fabric pens for her face so had to improvise! I am definitely going to purchase some proper pens for doll no 2, which I'm currently working on. I'm quite pleased with my wild first attempt, she was fun to make, and really cheers up the bedroom door!

I've got so many projects I want to do it's really difficult to decide what's next. I also want to begin my C&G in embroidery, but I've just become interested in crazy quilting and there's an excellent on-line course I would like to do - plus all the projects I brought home from NZ. I also start a creative embroidery evening class on Tuesday night. I've never been to a proper class before, so I'm really looking forward to it. So I should be kept nice and busy. Oh, and then there's the redecorating of the entire flat and sorting out the garden -aaaarrrggh! No time to go to work....

  1. Welcome.
Your Claudia doll is lovely. I'll have to show her to my Claudia (8year old daughter). She asked me to make her one of Patti's fairy dolls 6 months ago!!

  3. Claudia is lovely. Welcome to the wonderful world of cloth dolls! I, like you, was never interested in dolls when I was young, but the range of creative possibilities is endless. Now I'm addicted. Warning! They can take over your life. LOL! Can't wait to see what you make next.
