Back with a few dolls

Hello, it's nice to be back.

I'm writing this from my re-designed desk/computer area which is wonderful and so comfy now! Sorry to disappear without any explanation -  I overdid things in May and paid the price. I'm now much better, but my problem is probably with me for life, so I've had to make quite a few lifestyle changes. A few weeks ago I began  lessons in the Alexander Technique, which has been a revelation. I hope to start doing some embroidery again in a few weeks, but I'm  going to have to make changes in my creative life too.

I've been  trying to keep busy though and  I thought you might like to see the dolls I've created over the past couple of months. The first 2 girls are stump doll samples for classes in the autumn and the third was purely for my enjoyment!

This is Demelza ( I am a huge Poldark fan)! I was asked for a pretty doll for the class, so she's my homage to a late C18th lady. The lace over skirt  is a beautiful crocheted tablecloth edging made by one of my  clever ancestors, but I  don't know which one!

Demelza  just needed ribbons, lace and some pretty flowers to get her look.

Of course I had to sneak a few pearls in somewhere too.

Arianell, Queen of Winter, was designed as not a Christmas angel or fairy, but something completely different which would be suitable for the Christmas/Winter season.

Wired ribbon  holds the simple lace cloak to make a train effect.
 Plain buttons embellished for joints.

And my easy way to make a tiara!

I had a very short time to work on these,  but I'm pleased with how they  came out.

Finally, here is Sunny.

I've been  wanting to make a 1960's flower child for ages, but she turned out to be a 2012 retro version who raided her mum's attic! Sunny turned out to be very creative and an adept at recycling too. She hand painted  all the patches for her jeans, and her  sun emblem t-shirt ( one of her dad's old ones).
She also painted the old lace she found to jazz up the t shirt and borrowed mum's sewing machine to machine embroider her bag, using the contents of mum's orts jar to make the fabric.
Recycled flip flops and beads; chain belt made from old jewellery and fabric flowers in her hair and clothes complete the look.

Hopefully, I'll be back to blogging a bit more regularly now, and I'll tell you the news about my changing  life! Thanks to all my kind blogging friends who have been in touch,  you're a wonderful bunch of people!x

  12. You have a great imagination to dream up these wonderful creatures! Some charming faces and features in your pretty dolls. Sunny reminds me of someone I knew ---a real 60's Haight Asbury flower child.
